Bees and wasps may look similar but they are completely different from each other. Bees are not aggressive and most importantly they are vegans, they do not eat insects or any living thing. They only eat honey made from pollen they collect which they also use to feed their larva. A bees nest looks nothing like a hornet’s nest. Beehives are waxy and smooth looking and have a specific honeycomb appearance that is easy to identify. They are usually pale in color, almost yellow or light brown, and are generally symmetrical on all sides.

Bees and wasps have a similar life cycle in that both bees and wasps die off in the winter and their queens escape to hibernate. They both lay eggs in a honeycomb-like nest and they both feed their larva but that is specifically where their similarities cease. The bees feed their larva honey. Wasps feed them headless insects. You can see the distinction. The wasps seem outright barbaric compared to bees. That being said, don’t get to in love with bees either, they can also sting, though they can only sting once their sting still hurts a lot and people with allergies can be at risk of hospitalization or death if they get stung more than once. A wasp can sting in swarms like bees but they are far more tenacious and aggressive. They will follow you around corners and past obstacles and will wait for you over water. They can also remember your face and attack you months later out of nowhere. This is why wasps are something that needs to be exterminated while bees should be cherished.

If its fat and wide and buzzes around haphazardly its a bee. If it is thin with a tight waist and a large size then you have wasps. If the nest is waxy and symmetrical its bees, if the nest is oblong and papery, its a wasp nest.
