How to remove wasps from under the deck

Wasps, especially yellowjackets, often make their nests either underground or at least near to the ground. They prefer places with strong protection and it happens that a low deck is a perfect place for them to make a nest. If the deck is inaccessible then you may have to start pulling up boards to spray the nest but there is another option for getting rid of or at least keeping at bay, the wasps that live in the nest.

If you suspect wasp presence anywhere near or on your property, contact Wasp Control  Hamilton for quick and safe removal.

Wasps favor insects in the spring when they lay their eggs and raise their larva. However, once the summer comes they stop making eggs and start looking for food they like, and it is not insects. It tends to be our food. They love sweet things. Ice cream, juice, and wine, they love salad and fruit and anything that smells at all sweet. This means that if you want to have a bbq or an outdoor dinner you will also have to suffer an onslaught of wasps trying to eat everything on the table. This can turn a nice dinner into a nightmare very quickly. So what is there to do? You cant find the nest so there is no way to destroy them and you want to try to deal with it yourself before you call an exterminator. You can try building wasp traps and keeping them far from the table to attract the wasps. You take a clear plastic jug with a lid and fill it with old fruit and apple cider vinegar and some water, cut a small hole, just big enough for the wasps to fit through, and then set it down where they fly about, they will fly in and be trapped as they cannot find the exit and mistake the clear plastic for nothing. They will bounce around for a while and then suffocate from the vinegar. This can be a very effective method if done correctly. However, if you have a lot of wasps on your property you may have a large nest, and that needs to go or the queen will just keep coming back every year.

If you have a nest under an inaccessible deck then you may have to remove the deck boards to allow the deck to be sprayed. You can do it yourself, just make sure to get two big cans of wasp spray and do the spraying at night when they are asleep. Empty both cans into the nests opening and keep going till both cans are empty. This will kill the wasps and after a week you can remove the nest and put the board back onto the deck.
